How to reset your brake service alert in your F45/F46 or other F-series

Recently, I just received my front brake pad service alert on my BMW. It is triggered when there is about 2000km mileage left.

On your iDrive, you will receive this alert to warn you about brake pad going to be worn out.

To reset this alert after you had replaced your brake pads:

1) Press and hold the odometer button. It will turn 0 km mileage and then goes back to previous mileage again.

2) Keep holding the button for about 10 to 15 seconds.

3) Release the button and press the button again to select the options:

4) Press the button to reset the brake pad alert and a progress message will be shown.  Wait for a few seconds.

5) It will shows brake pad reset success.

6) Go back to your iDrive menu and check vehicle status. Your service alert for brake pad is gone!

P.S You can also follow similar steps to reset your engine oil alert as well!

  4. Hi Robot, will you please tell on which display BC information you have to press for the first time odometer button? What do you mean when you say: " It will turn 0 km mileage and then goes back to previous mileage again".
Is the beginning of the procedure which is unclear to me.
    Thanks

    1. Door clsed
      Seat belts drivers buckled
Press start do not press brake pedal.
Wait dash lights go off abd then you press odometer until several service icons will be showen
      Select desired
Press odometer again, keep press odometrs until a "reset" will be shown
Press again to confirm procedure ....
and it should take up to 45 secs /30secs while th "resetting process " its shown until the job gets done .

Note; if you keep changing them in a diferent expected ratios of time /versus kilometers= probably it will stay locked as a secure manipulation thing, but if this is the case, then after 30 or 50 klm it will get unblocekd by it self.
(EGS takes up to 800klm btw.

  12. To reset rear brake pads the parking brakes must be disengaged. Otherwise reset will fail.

    Cheers

  18. Hello and thank you for your post!
I have executed the reset, but the brake pad service of the front brake is not visible anymore.
Normally it shows: OK and the lasting mileage to the next replacement.
Will this come up again ?

  19. hello everyone. I don't know if this post is still alive, but I have a quick question:
on my F46 I changed my brake pads today. funny thing is that nonetheless the brake pads sensor were correctly install, I had no warning when I was at the end with it. Also, in iDrive I don't have a counter/service for brake pads. they just simply don't show off. Am I missing something?

    thanks everyone.
